What are you Hungry for?

“Amen, amen, I say to you,
you are looking for me not because you saw signs
but because you ate the loaves and were filled.
Do not work for food that perishes
but for the food that endures for eternal life,
which the Son of Man will give you. (John 6:26-27)

I never thought that last night when I took my seat at the Jim Gaffigan show that the one thing that I would remember this morning--besides lots of funny jokes...would be a joke that while very funny tied exactly to this morning's reading...I mean exactly...God is funny right?

So Jim was saying...Jesus was fit which was amazing since he could multiply bread when ever he wanted, boom, pretzle bread, boom garlic knots...and then one day he's all like you just are following me do-tee do tee to (imagine him walking like a hunch back gnome) because you want the bread, but I want to give you bread for your soul.  and the people are all like 'no way give us the real bread--unless by soul bread you mean corn bread, because I love corn bread.'"

We don't want the soul bread..

This morning at Mass Fr. Vu posed the question, "What are you hungry for?"

Now as a stay at home mom who never gets to eat all of her food because someone always thinks "mom's looks better" I am hungry a lot...but what do I hunger for? my bed...sleep...coffee...silence...alone time...help...support...and as my list goes on I wonder at what point will I find Jesus...the Eucharist... where is Jesus on your list?  What do we want from God? Pretzel bread or soul bread?  The real soul bread.  The stuff that satisfies my soul, my restlessness, my need for more...something...my longing for love and appreciation, my questions, my aches, my hurts.  That's what I really need.

Where is Jesus?  Where is my longing for him?

how many people in that arena caught what I caught from Jim?  How many didn't even realize that real soul food exists and that it's better than corn bread?

Lord may I long for you more than coffee and have the boldness to invite all to the meal where we receive you, Body, Blood, Soul, and divinity...

Jesus I believe, help my unbelief.
